Description

A white powder.

Solubility

Freely soluble in water; Practically insoluble in ethanol (96%).

Identification
(A) Sodium Salts

(A) A dense, white precipitate is formed.
(B) No precipitate is formed.

(B) Citrates

 

(A)Violet colour, turning to violet-blue is produced.
(B) A white precipitate is produced which is soluble in 6M acetic acid.

Acidity (pH)

pH of a 3% w/v solution, 4.9 to 5.2.

Arsenic

Not more than 2 ppm

Not more than 20 ppm

Chloride

Not more than 330 ppm

Oxalate

Not more than 150 ppm (Calculated as anhydrous oxalic acid).
